Pure Lithium secures funding from US DOE to – Mining News

Pure Lithium, a lithium steel battery technology company, has secured funding from the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Vehicle Technology Office.

The funding will assist the scaling of lithium steel anode manufacturing from recycled lithium steel in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory.

This initiative goals to create a closed-loop home provide chain for lithium steel anodes.

Lithium steel waste is a byproduct of sure industrial processes within the US. By recovering and utilising this waste, Pure Lithium intends to strengthen its battery manufacturing capabilities.

The partnership with Argonne National Laboratory will give attention to demonstrating and scaling the company’s patent-pending technology to produce pure lithium steel anodes from recycled supplies.

The company’s Brine to Battery technology integrates steel extraction and anode manufacturing, permitting entry to non-traditional lithium sources.

The lithium steel anode produced by means of the method is the principle part of the company’s lithium steel vanadium oxide (LVO) battery. Furthermore, the battery accommodates no graphite, cobalt, nickel or manganese.

Pure Lithium founder and CEO Emilie Bodoin mentioned: “While our core technology is combining steel extraction from lithium-bearing brines with anode manufacturing, our staff is extremely expert in metallurgical processing. The alternative to extract worth from a waste stream utilising technology that enhances our giant portfolio of patents was one we couldn’t move up.

“I am delighted to work with Argonne National Laboratory, leveraging their incredible team and facilities to demonstrate and scale this technology. External partners are the key to accelerating our time to market as we continue to execute on our business plan, securing all commercially viable intellectual property surrounding lithium metal anode and battery production, ensuring a secure low-cost domestic supply chain.”

This acquisition is a important step in the direction of the commercialisation of Pure Lithium’s LVO battery, which may probably lower the US’s dependency on China for battery supplies.

In October last 12 months, Pure Lithium introduced the acquisition of all property, together with mental property, of Dimien, a vanadium cathode supplies innovator primarily based in Buffalo, US.
