Newcleo, Danieli to probe nuclear energy – Mining News
Nuclear energy innovator newcleo and iron and metal plants developer Danieli have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to discover the mixing of newcleo’s lead-cooled fast reactors (LFR) with Danieli’s steelmaking technology.
The collaboration seeks to offer inexpensive, ample, carbon-free electrical energy and high-temperature heat by means of newcleo’s nuclear energy options to energy Danieli’s processes used to produce inexperienced metal.
The partnership could lead on to energy provide options throughout the iron and metal worth chain, together with functions linked to the Danieli digital melter and the manufacturing of inexperienced hydrogen for Danieli’s Energiron direct discount technology.
newcleo founder and CEO Stefano Buono acknowledged: “Danieli is on the forefront of the steelmaking industry’s effort in the direction of decarbonisation and web zero, targets that are ever more entangled with competitiveness and energy prices. Our goal by means of this collaboration is to present metal producers with economically viable options for the manufacturing of inexperienced metal.
“By combining our technologies, we will look to open up great opportunities for the global steel industry, not only by addressing the direct needs of steelmakers but also by propelling global supply chains towards a new era of competitiveness and sustainability.”
By collaborating, newcleo and Danieli purpose to obtain vital milestones in decarbonising the metal industry whereas lowering energy prices and volatility.
The partnership comes at a essential time for the European steelmaking industry, highlighted by the EU Commission’s strategic dialogue on the longer term of the metal sector and the Clean Industrial Deal introduced in February 2025.
The EU Commission has pledged more than €100bn ($108.3bn) in help of EU-made clean manufacturing, recognising the significance of small modular reactors (SMRs) in decarbonisation methods.
This partnership provides to newcleo’s present collaborations with the businesses Fincantieri, Maire and Saipem to discover nuclear for naval propulsion, inexperienced chemistry and offshore oil and fuel functions, respectively.
