Incredible history behind world’s longest – Science News

The Canary Islands function the world’s third-largest volcano and the biggest natural underwater lava tunnel.

Mount Teide, the third tallest volcano, is positioned in Tenerife, whereas the large La Corona volcanic tube may be present in Lanzarote.

Formed over 20,000 years in the past from the eruption of the Corona Volcano in northern Lanzarote, this spectacular tube stretches roughly 4.7 miles, with almost a mile submerged underwater.

Recently, the volcanic tube has been proposed as a new World Geological Heritage Site by the Commission on Geological Heritage of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).

The tube is an intriguing labyrinth of interconnected corridors and galleries that includes expansive vaults, small inside lakes, and a mix of dry and submerged cave sections.

The three notable components of the tube are Cueva de los Verdes, Jameos del Agua, and the Atlantis Tube. 

Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua positioned inside the volcanic tunnel, are natural caves which might be open to guests and natural caves that have been shaped following the eruption of the Corona Volcano.  

Cueva de los Verdes, which suggests “Cave of the Greens” is understood for its fascinating shapes and vibrant colors, superbly shaped within the volcanic rock.

Some say that the “Green” refers back to the inexperienced hues mirrored within the natural rock formations inside the cave, whereas others consider that it was the key hideout of a rich household generally known as Los Verdes. 

The journey via the cave culminates in an auditorium recognized for its spectacular natural acoustics.

The Jameos del Agua (“Caves of Water”) is the part of the tunnel that’s the closest to the coast and owe their title to the underground lake, which is home to an endemic species of blind and albino crab. 

It can even function the ‘Casa de los Volcanes’ geological museum, exhibition areas, a multifunctional room, and even a live performance corridor.

The Atlantis Tube is the half of the tunnel that continues to be submerged under sea degree.
